Uncertain Design: the “Copying” Myth in Brazilian Design Historiography is my MA thesis dedicated to understanding how a historical culture of “copy” is present in interpretations about the appropriations of foreign models, especially in the creation of educational design projects in Brazil during the 1950s and 1960s. In summary, I argue that through a non-explicit anachronism, a myth in the historiography of Brazilian national design was constituted by narratives permeated by the historical culture of “copy”. In opposition, I propose that, through an uncertain design, foreign perspectives, such as those at Ulm School of Design, were negotiated by multiple Brazilian historical agents through dialogues, exchanges, and conflicts in order to develop a local experience of design education. The book's identity is based on illustrations created from images collected in newspapers and documents used as the main historical sources of the research.
